Week 4 Film room project Post Mortem
Michael Ollerton
This was a three-week project to recreate a scene from a
film. We had to look at the lighting, colours and composition of the scene to
decide which was the strongest and most visually appealing. In this blog post
I’m going to look into how the project turned out and attempt to pick out what
I did and how can I improve it in future projects.
We went through many films before settling on the film ‘Her’
by spike jonze.
Her is a film, which has a very appealing colour palette that
we liked and I feel is one of the main reason we chose this film. Actually
choosing the shot from the film was a little harder as we had a few scenes we
really liked, getting crit from our peers helped us decide.
We did a bit of concepting
such as draw throughs of the some of the assets like the desk, but as a group
we felt that it wasn’t necessary because the aim was to just recreate the
scene.
Before modelling we
assigned which assets people would do, we did this by outlining the assets in
different colour on a Photoshop file then gave people a colour, then they would
model which ever assets had their colour. I was given the desk and photocopier (orange), which i pushed myself to do because they are very central to the scene and are some of the focal points so they had to be perfect.
Also before we began the main modelling we created a white box which lined up in perspective to our scene so that all our models fit together. This work well for our team as we could quickly flip from the original to our scene and instantly see and thing that wasn't matched up properly.
Heres my models put into the white boxes, for review from my team mates.
Then we unwrapped and textured our models and put them into engine. Finally in engine once our scene was complete we used colour filters and colour correction so it fits our scene.

The final thing we had to do was had colour correction to our overall scene and match it up to what the original.
Overall as I group I feel we worked together really well.
Communication was really good this time around we tried to always be in the
same room so that we could give
feedback straight away, and if we were couldn’t be in the same room, we also
created a Facebook group where we posted the development and gave feedback from
home.
