Week 15 NEW PROJECT!
Michael Ollerton
Back from christmas and i feel I've been able to get back into the swing of things really well this time around. As usual with the course, we're straight into the firing zone with a group project. The project is to create a city out of containers that fit together in modularly, set in either a sic fi or dystopian world. I feel really good about my team, i think we have a really strong idea that looks complex from the outside but is actually rather simple.
Lets talk about what we plan to do for this project. This container city brief is already an incredibly interesting brief, just doing the a simple container city is already a pretty awesome and original portfolio piece. So therefore we hope to push the theme a bit and see what we can dowith this. I think we have as a group decided to do the dystopian theme as it made the most sense to us. we at first started thinking about in what situations would there be a lot of shipment containers and one of the answers we came up with was freight trains. we started blocking out an abandoned freight train that has been turned into a city. One thing that we really wanted to also include was a big sense of verticality. which is where our idea has come from, a combination or hybrid of those to things.
We started thinking out hanging rails that would transport these shipping containers around the world underground. Main inspiration for this was the doors scene from monsters ink
I've been concepting some of the areas with overpaints of the 3d renders of the white box we made to map out of level.
i'm happy with how my paintings are turning out as my speed is picking up at generating images that read what i want them to and also look nice.
