I have just handed in my first project of the year and i have to say i really learnt a lot on this project, even tho i don't really like my final out come for reasons i'll talked about later. I think this project was very helpful in understanding the differences between low poly characters and and hight poly characters. You have to do a lot of things differently in order to get good results.

I started this week by refining my colour palette, i played around with a lot of different variations, which you saw in my earlier work. some helpful feedback i received was on my to also focus on the values of the character, make sure the different materials have different values in order to differentiate them, also to think about using values to make the face a focal point.

Trying to take this feedback in and apply it to my design i came up with this colour palette and values, i made the cap very dark and the face bright in order to have the strongest contrast, and be the focal point. later in the week my tutor Craig saw these values and gave me more advice on how to improve them, the values of the jacket and trouser were very similar, so i adjust that too. Craig also gave me some good critique on some final adjustments to the design. he takes about how the buckle wasn't really working, and to blend to folds down a bit more, and to exaggerate the scarf more. These final adjustments really helped the design.

I finally had to put all of this into my low poly characters diffuse. This is where i personally feel it all went wrong. I didn't realise how much my design relied on the normals and trying to get that normal information into the diffuse was very tricky with only a few days to spare. I like how it looks but i feel if i gave my self a week to really hammer home those textures it would be really awesome.
I plan to keep working on this for my portfolio, on the last Friday of this project one of the artists from blizzard who specialise in hand painted textures just released a tutorial which goes thorough there whole process.

So i will be watching that and redoing parts of my model, to hopefully improve it. heres my final product anyway.
